So I'm back from my 8-day quarantine at Rizqun, for Bridging Minds, that is.
I'm not going to retell the entire experience here because there was just too much that happened and I find myself unable to articulate it well. It was an overwhelming ride and I feel like if I were to try and express it in words, I wouldn't be able to do it justice. So, for now, I will preserve my entire adventure in my mental vault.
I will tell you one thing though. BM certainly gave Kem Qiadah a run for its money! Although BM wasn't as physically challenging as KQ (though they were head to head in the sleep-deprived department), it was a mental headache, as well as a test to our immune system. Being cooped up at Rizqun 85% of the time led to some serious double F's: flu and fever. Nursing a runny nose and a giant headache (brought about by sleepless nights) while doing drama runs is not easy.
But the outcome was worth it. If you've read today's Borneo Bulletin (page 12) you would see that my team had won, hideous costumes whatnot. Congratulations to Liza for getting the Best Performer award. Keep it in Brunei :)
If somebody were to ask what was the best part of Bridging Minds, I'd say it was the people. Although we were awkward and aloof during the first few days, we managed to bridge (pun, yay!) our differences and establish a cammaraderie with each other, some closer and differen than others. We've been exposed to different outlooks and been through tough difficult times, all resulting in the hope that our skins have been thickened in the process. And for that alone, I would never wish the headaches, runny nose and crappy food away.

Hello my halimunan readers!
The long-anticipated holiday is here. Two weeks off, so how's everyone doing? I know my blog buddies are doing excellently. Raihan, I think, is the model student this holiday, something we all should aspire too! Why do I say so? Because.. she's been revising for the qualifying exam! Which is a lot more than I can say for myself.
Today is a Sunday and marks the end of half the holiday. I am ashamed to say that I haven't done anything productive throughout this entire week. What a waste of time! It's incredibly shocking. Homework and past papers have been residing in the same place they have since the last day of school: in my bag. Fungi have probably sprung up (please do!) That would be an awesome explanation to my teachers.
"I'm so sorry, Miss *inserts name* but all of my homework were eaten up by fungi *makes disappointed crying face*"
On a less depressing note, Bridging Minds starts this Tuesday! I'll be gone for about eight days, in which I would be missing two days of school -- an alarming thing, might I add since the qualifying exam is looming ahead. I won't moan and groan about how unfair it is. I'll just have to work out the schedule and find some time to... study. Ambitious teenagers should learn to persevere and multitask (something boys can never excel in, sorry boys)
By the way-
Why do people say, "I don't know how to eat that" in reference to food that they do not like or do not want to try? Of course they know how to eat it. All you have to do is open wide, chew, then swallow. I think what they are trying to say is "I don't like to eat it" or "I don't want to." But that can seem rude, especially if you want to impress someone. Just another random observation by yours truly :)
Lastly, everyone, seize the moment. We have only a week left and then the hustle and bustle of school life will once again, continue and we'll be left struggling, wondering, where did the time fly? So, whether it's finishing the huge stack of DVDs you planned to watch but never got around to, or simply revising, do it. Don't waste time with regret!

Do you girls know about the forest fires that has been harassing Brunei's forest for the past few days? Well... Today, i had a first hand account of that. And trust me, it was a HUGE one! It started around lunch behind one of the houses that is facing my house. The fire spread
fast and destroyed the beautiful back hilltop scenery of 7 houses. And it took more than 5 hours for the fire personnel to put it out, on account that there was only one fire engine at the scene. It was really scary when the fire came only around 10 feet away from one of the houses. The weird part was that the owner of the said house was still standing in front of the fire unfazed with his children flanking him. If i were him, i'd have already been half way across the country saving my wardrobe. The wind was blowing particularly hard today, which obviously made the fire worst. The debris of the burnt trees flew everywhere. If you look at the compound of my house, you'll see a lot of black burnt stuff that used to be a part of a tree. But thank God, no one was hurt because of the fire and no property was destroyed. Happy ending! :)
But let this be a reminder to all:
Global Warming is real!! It exist! Stop open burning. Start donating all your mirrors to NASA for them to launch it to outer space to reflect back the suns ray!
Someone told me about this plan. I can't quite remember who.. Damn, i wish i would've paid more attention to the documentary Dr. Don made us watch last year. A Convenient Truth, anyone? Sighs.
There was another incident that happened to me yesterday. I went to the immigration place to renew my passport sometime after lunch. There's this thing when you have to scan your fingerprints. For what, i'm not so sure. Haha. Well, believe it or not, after countless tries only 2 out of 10 of my fingerprints cleared! Yeah.. Weird! I have always believed that there was something wrong with me. My missing fingerprints definitely just proved that! LOL No, the machine wasn't broken.. It was definitely me. I don't know what that leaves me to now. And whether Malaysian immigration will let me enter their country or not. Hmmm.. I hope its not THAT serious. Maybe i should be a spy! LOL kidding!
On that note, i shall leave you now..
Happy holidays, girls! I hope I'll see you soon. If not, then i guess I'll see you after i get back from KL on the 30th. That, of course, if i pass airport security. LOL :P
I need to shower cause i smell like smoke!
Love always,
Afiqah :)

Obsessed, yet again.
There's no other way to describe it. This time, my obsession is in the form of online games!
So, it all started with my watching
Nancy Drew on a
Thursday morning as I nursed a headache. The one I watched was the most recent remake with
Emma Roberts as
Nancy and the entire film was centered around a sixties-mystery theme, something I've
always liked. My sisters and I actually bought the game Cluedo but we never actually understood the instructions so it's left somewhere up the shelves, collecting dust. And who can forget that particula
r
Doctor Who series where the
Doctor was stuck in the sixties at a tea party hosted by
Agatha Christie? The whole mystery vibe is always made potent by the presence of an impartial detective trying to eliminate each person and find the true killer by identifying their alibis and motives.
AND I FOUND SUCH A GAME ONLINE! FREE! IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE DOWNLOADED EITHER.
I now try to squeeze as many cases as I can each day (four cases allowed to unsubscribed members though =( ). I have to collect evidences, scout suspects' homes and interrogate others. It's supremely fun! There's also a time crunch and if you don't catch the real killer (ie you land with a false accusation) you'll lose your credibility. Three times and you're out! Oy, it's so fun!
To anyone, who's even remotely interested in this game, visit
http://shades.playsleuth.com/Enjoy (:
And happy holiday, girls! I know no one among us will be in school tomorrow except me and to many, the holiday had already started a week ago. So, I hope you've stocked up your days with fun and games. I know I have (:(:

HOLIDAYS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D Go ahead, grab that huge Sharpie and make a big, 'in-your-face' circle around the date that marks the start of our extremely needed vacay.
Vacations always act like some drug on me. I get all giddy just thinking about it and suddenly I'm not dragging my feet to school anymore, instead I find myself floating on a bright, fluffy cloud. They're like that pair of Louboutins you pray you'll get for Christmas or Hari Raya or whatever, the shining beacon of hope that you won't spend your whole life in Charles and Keith heels that about a thousand other Bruneians have. Like that thick, creamy chocolate cake you can't wait to savour after a day filled with failed attempts of dieting a la The Biggest Loser.
It's pure hope.
For us students, the holidays give us hope that life is so much more than rushing to school everyday and trying to finish our work before lessons start. Life is so much more than repeating the same dull routine every single day and life is so much more than worrying about whether Ms M will beat you up with her metre-rule or electrocute you with the Stroboscope upon discovering the fact that you've 'misplaced' your P textbook.
Hang in there, the countdown to freedom has started and in time you'll find a need for that teeny, Alice + Olivia minidress you've shoved at the back of your wardrobe because your social life as you know it has been trumped by words and phrases like 'curfew' and 'no parties on school nights'. Oh yay, it's raining. FINALLY!
Ryhan
p.s. everyone should dance in the rain once in a while. it's FUN. except for the getting sick part. :p

As teenagers of the abode of peace, we are forever bound my propriety. It is not to say, on my part, that culture and tradition have absolutely no place in my life, in today's society. On the contrary, I believe that they provide us with feelings of belonging; of being a part of an intricate network of people and norms. But there's a limit to everything, I suppose, especially if you're bombarded with it from every areas. You cannot go anywhere, do anything you want, without someone trying to enforce their will on you, picking on your conscience that is so susceptible to guilt. If they truly love you, why do they do that? Why do they insist on hurting you? Why don't they understand that every once in a while, you just want to let your hair down?
I'm still so young.
You can say that's my justification for my actions.

TfreakinGIF!!!!!! The week's going by in a fast blur thanks to the fact that I've spent a majority of my time going around with bloodshot eyes and sniffling every ten seconds. Stupid cold is all up my grill! :( But anyway, every trace of discontent and apparent fatigue has been washed away by the fact that Angels and Demons has premiered!!! :D Practically peeing in my pants with excitement. Je veux le regarde!! Highlight of my day, HAHA. :p

Don't act like i didn't fight for you.Despite my constant attempt to hide it, the cat has finally gotten out the bag! I wonder how cause i thought i hid it quite well deep down in the secret compartment of my Nike tote/school bag. It went out stealthily, went rampant and made kittens for the whole school. LOL thoughts? Eh.
Whatevs. He's not gonna do anything about it. And i certainly am not gonna do anything about it. Except maybe try to move on and set my priority straight. And everyone's happy!
Get the picture? Go figure! ;)
Damn, girls, it's June already! One more blink and the next thing you know, it's the qualifying exam. Sighs. Despite it being my birth month, June is my least favourite. Always a sucky month for me. I have a strong feeling it'll be a sucky month this year, too. Oh well, life goes on, put your miseries behind! :)
you know who.

Diversity won
Britain's Got Talent :)
After the initial shock and disappointment at
Flawless' loss, I summoned up enough energy to YouTube this dancing troupe called
Diversity.My reaction?
I was agape with shock and amazement.
I just
love watching people dance, perhaps because I could never in a million years dance the way they do, try as I may. Diversity consists of eleven members, with ages ranging from 12-25, which accounts for their group name. To those who love to ogle at hot guys, you'll be pleased to know that Diversity has a gorgeous-looking leader. But even if they were sorry sights, it would not have mattered because they are just superb dancers and entertainers. Trust me, no one will begrudge them the credit that they obviously deserve!

So...It's been awhile. Been pretty busy with school and whatnot and even when I have time at my disposal, I can't seem to think of what to write that won't bore you guys. Then again, if you're looking for something funny, witty and oh-so-charming to read, go read Calvin and Hobbes or something. :p Anyhoo, went home at around halfway through the school day today. :D Thank God my Dad didn't ask a lot of questions. All I had to do was sound extremely contagious. So I went home, slept, ate and woke up around 2 to do my GP homework. Right. moi+laptop+internet=a disaster in which i end up being glued to the screen til late hours. So I ran into (??) this article about the first wedding EVER to be conducted at the House of Juliet (Casa di Giulietta), as in that place with the balcony where, legend has it,Romeo wooed Juliet. Basically, it was Juliet Capulet's humble abode. It was the wedding between
carino Italian footballer Luca Ceccarelli and someone. Isn't that just romantic?? Of course, now that they've done it, brides from around the world will come in droves and pull each other's frilly train just to get the privilege of being wed there, and soon it'll be as over as Ugg boots and Crocs. Which is why, I call dibs on any beach in Mauritius, with a Tristan and Isolde theme. :p So that leaves everyone else with, Lancelot and Guinevere, Cleopatra and Marc Antony, Paris and Helena, Pocahontas and John Smith,Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy, Jane Eyre and Rochester (gag) etc. :D
I just wanna use your love tonight, tonight, tonight, tonight!!
A very heavily sedated Raihan
